Halloween | Blood 'n' Stuff

"It's said that All Hallows' Eve is one of the nights when the veil between the worlds is thin - and whether you believe in such things or not, those roaming spirits probably believe in you, or at least acknowledge your existence, considering that it used to be their own. Even the air feels different on Halloween, autumn-crisp and bright."
Erin Morgenstern

With one more day to go I guess we're almost at the height of the Halloween festivities. It's been awesome being part of the blogging community this year and seeing all the different things people have been doing in the run up to the big day. It has made me a little regretful I didn't put more effort in and decorate my room or bake gruesome cupcakes. Still, I'm very excited for when I get my own place and can get super creative with decorating it all spooky like. I think Eva and I will have tons of fun with it. I can't wait to try out some of the ideas I've seen, like the ones on Underland to Wonderland!

This year my sister and I have decided to forgo the Halloween parties and instead we're going to an ice hockey match and staying at a Premier Inn in Belfast for two nights. It will be our first time staying anywhere without our parents and even though it's only 30 mins or so away from them, it's still exciting and I'm still a little nervous. So I guess we're still doing something scary! We didn't intentionally pick the Halloween weekend, but it just happened to be the same night as the game. Still, we're going to maybe go a little Gothic and stuff. They have a fancy dress competition, but I think it'll be mostly kids dressing up. After the Game we're going to head to the bar like we did last time. It should be a lot of fun. Then on Saturday we're going to go on a shopping spree and treat ourselves. I can't wait to hit Lush! All the Lush hauls have put me in the mood to get some Snow Fairy. It'll be an adventure, and one I'm sure you'll hear plenty about in another post... so on with some Halloween fun!

Like I said, I'm not going to be home for Halloween. The last few years I've not had anyone to do stuff with, so I've spent it at home. I'd have some fun with make up and take photos. Last year I dressed up as Divine. I decided to do the same this year, but a couple of days early and share it with you lovely people! It's never anything elaborate, but there's nothing I love more than making a mess. And what's more fun to make a mess with than face paint and gooey fake blood! Definitely my favourite part of the whole experience yesterday.

I really wasn't sure what to dress up as this year. Inspiration for last year came like a bolt out of the blue and I loved it from the get go. This year I just had no idea. Everything I thought of was generic or too difficult for me to pull together by myself. Darn disabledness! Anyway, I ended up going for something generic, but something I knew I could make a mess and have fun with. Dead stabbed in the head person zombie thing is what I ended up being. I'm not going to try and put it more eloquently than that.

Overall my favourite part was doing my hair. I just used a lot of volumizer and mousse. I also had a hair band with a fake knife through my head. At each side where the knife was I put A LOT of fake blood and it all dripped through my hair. I loved how it looked, more than I probably should have. Head wound isn't usually a look most people want to go for any other time of year. On my face I went with your regular white face with dark shadows thing. I think it turned out better than I expected it too considering what I was using. I kind of regret doing the tears of blood, but we live and learn.

I basically bought most of what I used from Poundland, aside from what I used from my regular make up and also the hair products.

What I Used

Personally I wouldn't recommend the Poundland stuff, apart from the fake blood. I don't know about clothes, but from everything else it washed off really well. The white foundation and black cream stuff weren't great. Particularly the white. It was hard to get any pigment at all and I really had to cake it on, but you get what you pay for. Next year I think I'll invest in better stuff.

idea of how it looked in real life

So yeah, I had a lot of fun. Even if I went down the generic route. I think I achieved a pretty great look for minimal expense. I spent £4 overall for the make up and head knife. Not bad. And to get my money's worth... here's more photos!

As an extra little Halloween thing I decided to try and do today was my nails. I'm not great at nail art, but I watched a tutorial on blood dripping nails and I had an epiphany. I had been trying to decide whether to do Halloween inspired nails or Belfast Giant's colours nails for the game and then I thought, why not do both!

I did a little practise earlier to see if it was as easy as the tutorial made out, and I wasn't disappointed. I used my Barry M. Nail Paint in Matt White and Black, and Barry M. Gelly Hi Shine in Guava and Blood Orange. I think it looks pretty good and I'm looking forward to doing both hands for the big game tomorrow night! I'd definitely recommend this type of nail if you're like me and don't have a steady hand or patiences but want effective Halloween nails!

So yeah, I hope you enjoyed my Halloween post! Next year maybe I'll be in my own place and I can show you all my nifty decorations and such too. Anyway, this will be my last blog post for a few days until I get back from my weekend away. I'm sure I'll fill you in all about it in my next post, which should be early next week. See you on the other side! Have a great Halloween whether you're celebrating it or not.

What are your plans this weekend? And if you're dressing up, what're you dressing up as?

  1. I love your costume and nails!! I'm going out with my friend Sammy, as far as I know I'm going as somebody in an electric chair, we're using my wheelchair as part of the prop. If that doesn't work out, I have a backup plan I've used for Twin Day at school. Since my wheelchair hot pink and black, surprisingly I have the right shade of pink in my wardrobe so I'll probably go as my wheelchair, pigtails and all! I hope you enjoy your weekend dear!

    1. Thank you! I'm pretty happy with it considering how rubbish the make up was. I really hope I'm in my own place next year, but if not I'm going to take your suggestion and just decorate my room. And you're welcome! I really enjoyed that post. Now I know where it find it next year too.

Thank you, I'm really looking forward to it. I've warned my sis not to drink too much, so we should be fine. Have an awesome weekend yourself.

      xx
