Bloo's Reviews | Five Year Journal

"Putting words on paper regularly is part of the necessary discipline of writing. A journal is a great way to do that."
Pearl Cleage

I should be doing revision for an exam right now, so I'm doing this review as quickly as possible. I should have been better prepared, but we live and learn. I had planned to review some of the make up I got for Christmas, but that would have been a little more time consuming. So I thought I would review the 5 Year Journal I got for Christmas.

As you can see from the cover, basically there's a question a day and you answer that question. Each page has a space for five answers, hence it being a five year journal. I'm a sucker for journals with a twist, so I knew when I seen this that I had to have it. Much like the Wreck This Journal, it's good for people that maybe aren't so good at keeping up with a traditional journal but want something to look back on. That's personally why I love journalling and even blogging. Also because you only have a little space, it doesn't take a lot out of your day to keep up with it. Maybe it will help me learn to express myself without rambling on! (Aha, fat chance).

A selection of questions from the journal:

January 2nd

Can people change?

March 6th
Who's your nemesis?

April 2nd
Who do you feel closest to?

August 17th
If you had to spend five years in prison, what would you finally have the chance to do?

October 14th
What expression do you overuse?

You get the idea. Obviously most of them I'm yet to complete as I only got the journal this Christmas. I'm really looking forward to seeing how my answers change over the years.

Overall, the book is just really good quality. I'm a sucker for brown paperback (it's a hardback book, but you know what I mean...). I used to always back my books in brown paper at school. It made me feel old school. The paper quality is very good and I didn't get a photo of it, but the edges of the pages are gold. It's so pretty, I'd even recommend it as a gift for someone if you're not into it yourself.

I got mine for Christmas, so I'm not sure how much it was. But I did see them on Amazon if you want to look them up yourself. There's other variations too, but this particular one is by Potter Style.

Do you journal?
Would you ever consider something like this?

  2. A great review, the book looks so intriguing. I've just started 'A Line a Day' 5 Year Journal... I'm thinking how will I keep it up though! Hopefully it'll just become habit to remember to complete it :) x

    1. Thank you. I'm really enjoying it. Oh, that sounds cool too! What I like about this one is that you have a question, so you don't have to think of what to write yourself. I think I'd find that more difficult. Lol. xo

  3. Wow I've haven't seen anything like this before. I'm quite lazy when it comes to diaries, this looks like a fun way to maintain one though

    1. I hadn't either. I only came across it when I was looking for ideas for Christmas this year. I'm the same. I started a journal not long before my blog and I've not touched it in ages! This is pretty easy and fun to keep up with though. :)

  4. This is such a lovely idea - I definitely agree that journals are a great way to document your memories, and this looks fantastic for giving you little 'prompts' to inspire your writing that day if you're not sure what to write about! I'm sure it'll be interesting to look back on and read your answers in the future!

Also, I love the style - such a pretty, classic look, which is a bit more unusual than the other journals I've seen popping up online.

    1. Exactly. Admittedly I'd be at a loss, considering a lot of the stuff I'd put in a journal would already by written on my blog. That's why I stopped journalling, though I'd like to start a proper one again. This is good in the mean time. :)

Yeah, that's also what drew me to it. It's just a really nice looking book and great quality.

  5. Want! Seriously, I am sooo awful at keeping up with a journal / diary whatever and this just seems so much more fun and easy. It looks cute too.

    1. Yeah. I really recommend it. I don't think it was too expensive either, from what I remember when I came across it. :)
