Arts 'n' Crafts | Crochet Caravan Keyring

To say I messed up this post is a little bit of an understatement. I may have underestimated how long this craft would take me to do and then when I was rushing to get it finished before I had to get ready for class, I forgot to take photos as I went along. So I apologise for this slightly rubbish post. Still, better late than never.

Today's craft is another I stole from my mother who downloaded the pattern from Etsy. It's a crochet caravan keyring. Since my mum had to buy it I'm not going to share the pattern in this post but I will link it if you're interested in making these. They are super simple to make and look really cute. The pattern is £2.50 so it's not really that expensive at all.

What you need

At least two different colours of yarn. Personally I think one darker or bold colour and a lighter colour works best.

Some fabrics for the door and window of your caravan. You only need a little bit so it's a great way to use up old scraps.

Some fixings. A button to act as the wheel of the caravan and a keyring which also doubles to look like the tow chain.

Lastly you'll need a crochet hook that is size appropriate for your particular yarn. The one I used was 3.0mm. You'll also need fabric glue, scissors and a needle.

How I made it

Like I said I'm not going to give you the pattern, but you can find it here. I will however give you a short run down of what you'll do. You will crochet two panels that make up the caravan's body. You will then crochet them together to make a neat edge right around. During this you will attach your keyring. At the end you will then glue on, or sew on if you prefer, the button for the wheel and the fabric for the window and doors. You will end up with something that looks like this.

Although I'm happy with the outcome of the first try I feel like it isn't as good of a caravan shape as shown in the pattern. Possibly because she used cotton yarn or because she used a small bit of stuffing between the two panels and I did not. I guess the moral of the story is always follow patterns down to the letter.

And there you have it. My crochet caravan keyring. Again, I'm sorry it's late and is less than perfect but I guess that's what crafting is all about!

  2. That looks so good! I've never thought about crocheting keyrings before, going to have to hunt out some key ring chains and have a play around myself!

    1. Thank you! Its by no means perfect but I haven't crocheted in quite a while so I'm happy I was able to follow a pattern at all. Lol. But yeah, my mum lkes to crochet and knit keyrings. They've been quite popular. Def recommend having a go. They're pretty simple and quick. xo
