Our Sister Songs

"Music is the soundtrack of your life."
Dick Clark

I've written in the past about My Mood Music, music I listen to when I need help cheering up or when I need to get the boohoos out. Today I decided to do another music themed post! Now we all have certain songs that remind us of certain people. Usually a romantic partner. Either past or present. While I have those, I also have a number of songs that remind me of my sister Eva! Is that weird? Where it differs slightly is we have songs that remind us of each other that we like to duet together.

Before I started writing this post I made a list of the songs I was going to include and then asked Eva what she'd include without letting her see my list. She named the exact same songs. So these are our top five sister songs! Click the titles of the songs for a link to a YouTube video of them.

"I've heard it said that people come into our lives for a reason.
Bringing something we must learn.
And we are lead to those who help us most to grow if we let them.
And we help them in return.
Well, I don't know if I believe that's true,
but I know I'm who I am today because I knew you."

This is definitely one we like to duet together. I am usually Elphaba, naturally, and Eva is Glinda. This song is all about the impact they've had on each other's lives which is pretty apt for Eva and I. We're a big influence on each other.

"Every hero needs a sidekick; every captain needs a mate! (Aye, aye!)
Every dinner needs a side dish –
On a slightly smaller plate!"

Yes! Another Musical Theatre song. We're big musical theatre lovers. We were brought up on it! This song is a little more tongue and cheek and less emotional than For Good. With this one our roles are a little less set. I usually get to be Elder Price but we don't fully agree on which of us is the sidekick. I mean.. in the context of the musical Elder Cunningham is the one to be but Elder Price has the better part in this song. Oh well. Nothing wrong with changing it up every once in a while.

"We were tight knit boys
Brothers in more then name
You would kill for me
And knew that I'd do the same."

I found this song on a Dalaric fan video and fell in love with it. I showed it to Eva and she wasn't hooked right away but not she loves it as much as I do. I don't know why it reminds us of each other as the context of the song doesn't fully fit us. It's about one brother leaving the other behind and never being content. Which isn't really us, but I think it's the unconditional love in the song reminds me of Eva and I. The brother whose perspective the song is from is always there when the other comes back. Like that, Eva and I are always there for each other.

"Do you wanna build a snowman?
Come on lets go and play
I never see you anymore
Come out the door
It's like you've gone away."

There's a little bit of a story behind this one. I used to always sit at the kitchen table on my laptop but after my rats passed away and I had more space in my room where their cage used to be I decided to get a desk in my bedroom instead. It was a little bit of an adjustment period for my family as they were so used to seeing me when they were in and out of the kitchen. I'd be held up in my room working in one blog post or another and when Eva heard this song she felt like she could relate to Anna. With Frozen I am always Elsa and Eva is always Anna. She's the fun loveable one and I am the uhm.. slightly cold 'special' one. It just works.

Adore Delano ft Alaska Thunderfuck

"I’m polish remover
I’m ratchet couture
I’m a goddamn mermaid
I don’t need to try
I don’t even care who gives a shit
Cause I look fucking cool."

This is the newest song on the list. In this one Eva is Adore and I'm Alaska. We especially listen to this when we're getting ready to go out and want to feel our oats. Eva says she's Adore because she has hog body and I'm Alaska because I'm like a colouring book, even a child could read me. I'm okay with that.

And those are our top five sister songs at the moment! Do you have any special songs that remind you of certain loved ones? Or any songs you especially love to duet with anyone? We have other songs we love to duet with each other but not because we relate to them. Such as The Confrontation song from Les Miserables! I am always Jean Valjean. We also love to duet Goodbye Love from Rent! That one we switch up the roles a little more. Anyway, if you enjoy these types of posts please let me know!
