"...war in our time is always indiscriminate, a war against innocents, a war against children."
Howard Zinn
You would pretty much have to live under a rock not to know about the current refugee crisis going on right now and if you're reading this blog post then I can safely say you're not living under a rock. Or in the very least you have a rock that has an internet connection, but I digress. We live in a world where horrible, unthinkable things happen every day. Most of us, perhaps to preserve our sanity, turn a blind eye now and then to the things we feel we are powerless to change. However, there are just some things we cannot turn a blind eye to. Once seen there is no longer the luxury of blissful ignorance. It cannot be unseen or ignored. They haunt the mind's eye and compel us with the strong need to do something. Anything that might end the suffering of those involved. Nothing evokes this more than seeing a child in pain or, as we've witnessed over the last few days, their death.
