Highlights: 2015 Edition

"If you ask me what I came into this life to do, I will tell you: I came to live out loud."
Emile Zola

This post is a little overdue but here it is finally! My 2015 highlights. It was a little harder to narrow down my highlights to 10 as I did in my 2014 highlights, so this year I have 12! There are probably more but these are the ones that featured on my blog. At the end of 2015 I felt like I hadn't done anything of note all year, but I guess I was wrong. 2015 wasn't bad at all, I hope 2016 lives up to it. Now on to my highlights. Enjoy!

1) Winning Underland To Wonderland's giveaway. I had such fun creating my hidden Mickey entry and I got so many lovely compliments about it. That felt particularly good as I hand't done much art in the while before I drew it. To top it all off I won! I've always been a little shy taking part in things like that but after winning another giveaway at the end of 2014 I figured I would put myself in the running for more things like that. I was not disappointed. I got a bunch of lovely items. My particular favourites were the quote plaque and the otter poster. Eva and I also made good use of the face masks. (link)

2) I mentioned the other giveaway I won at the end of 2014 above but I didn't actually write about it until 2015 as the prize didn't make it to me until February, so I didn't include it in last year's highlights post. It was a big dream come true so I figured it's only right that it be included in this post despite the fact it happened in 2014. I won a giveaway and got many goodies but I also got to Skype a Canadian Paralympian I really admire. It's one of the first things I'd ever won and while that in itself was a big deal, the fact I was able to get over my anxiety enough to actually Skype with someone I look up to was an even bigger deal to me. It's all a memory I will cherish forever. (link)

3) I got my first crafty opportunity because of my blog. I wrote a bucket list last year of things I wanted to do and on that list was to try candle making. I got an email offering me to try a candle making tutorial. They'd send me the supplies and gave me a small budget for customisation and the only thing I had to do in return was blog about it. As you can imagine I was ecstatic! It just sounded like such a fun opportunity and it really was. I was also blown away by the extras they sent me. It felt like I was making progress in the blogging world. As much as I don't blog for money or freebies, the opportunity to try new crafts is something I hope happens again in the future. (link)

4) I got my Ruzi Q! My Syrian hamster, Rue, was one of the biggest highlights of 2015. She's just the cutest little fuzzy butt. I also love the story behind me getting her. It just felt like she was for me. She might be fast but she's so gentle. I'm beyond glad my parents changed their minds and let me get her in the end, as well as letting my sister get her own little bundle of furry hamster love, Ernie. After wanting a hamster for a long time, Rue has been the perfect little lady to join my pet family. (link) (link)

5) My older sister's friend gave me and Eva a pair of tickets to see the MAMMA MIA! International Tour when it came to Belfast. He was working for the production and got us incredible seats, for free! I've never been a big fan of ABBA and I've never seen the film version of the musical but I think everything is different live on stage. The cast was immense. It gave me a whole new appreciation for the music. Graham also gave us a little behind the scenes tour afterwards and told us about touring different countries. It was a really fun experience and I would definitely go to see it again if it were to come back to Belfast. Even if I had to pay! (link)

6) The Belfast Giants Awards were probably a highlight of my life, never mind 2015! It was just such a fun night. My sister, making friends, alcohol and my favourite ice hockey team. Staying over at the hotel really made it perfect. The breakfast was so good. Well needed for our hangovers. I really hope we get to do this again and it's as good. Though I worry next time it won't live up to the expectation as the first time around  (link)

7) Eva and I went on the Belfast Giants' cruise to and back from Scotland at the end of the ice hockey season. It was a fun day out, even if it was very long and I had a monster headache after. It was kind of a big deal for Eva and I to put ourselves into that kind of social situation where you don't have an escape. I mean, we were on a boat the whole day. It was fun to have friends to spend it with too and I finally got my autograph book signed. (link)

8) I finally went to my first Gay Pride! It's something I've wanted to do for years but not really having any friends to go with kind of made that difficult. Eva usually went with her friends but this year she and I decided to go together and her friend Rhys came along too. It was a great day and definitely one for the books! I hope I get to do it all over again in 2016. (link)

9) The Color Run was another thing I got to tick off my bucket list. After enjoying the Memory Walk so much the year before I wanted to do something again. Although I didn't raise money myself this time around, the run supported the NSPCC. It was actually Eva's friend Jodie that suggested it but it ended up just Eva and I taking part. It was only 5k, which turned out to be a good thing as I was having wheelchair battery problems. We got a lovely day for it and I thoroughly enjoyed being covered in a rainbow of powdered colour. All these months later there's still some on my wheelchair! (link)

10) You may remember that in 2014 Eva and I stayed in Belfast by ourselves for the first time. Well we decided to do the same in 2015, but over Eva's birthday rather than over Halloween. Okay, so the whole thing didn't exactly go to plan. I wasn't very well during it and my wheelchair was still broken, meaning I was basically running on no battery power. While it wasn't the perfect holiday, it was still really fun and I mean hitting Build A Bear and the Disney Store rights all wrongs. Not to mention the awesome breakfasts both mornings. Something we opted out of the first time, which turned out to be a mistake. I can't wait to have our little staycation in Belfast again! (link) (link) (link)

11) NCAA Friendship Four Tournament coming to Belfast was just immense. I really didn't know what to expect from the college hockey experience and I was not disappointed by the weekend at all. Okay, it was a bit of a blur thanks to many Desperados but it was a fun blur. I was worried it would be boring because we weren't familiar with the teams but that couldn't be further from the truth. I was so happy when they announced it would be coming back in 2016. Eva and I are hoping to stay in Belfast this year, perhaps that's when we'll have our staycation! (link)

12) Finally, getting my snail babies was another big highlight. People really underestimate how much snails can bring to your life and how much personality and individuality they have. First I got Violet Chachki and Duro, and then a little later I got Agron. It's been fun watching them grow and trying different tank set ups. Lately their tank has gotten a little boring because of a bug problem I was having but I'm hoping to have more fun with it soon. If you are interested in getting a pet a little different to the norm I really can't recommend them enough! (link) (link)

So there you have my highlights of 2015. The year just flew by. I hope you all had as a wonderful and fun filled year as I did. Tell me one of your highlights!

Love the shot of you during the colour run, that's something that's been on my list of things to do for a while. Here's to an even more fun filled 2016 Sara! - Tasha
