Television | Cancelled Too Soon #2

"Don't cry because it's over.
Smile because it happened."
Dr. Seuss

Welcome to the second instalment of my Cancelled Too Soon series. So many shows we've had to say goodbye to before we were ready. I even have a couple for the third edition already! I don't know how my poor heart handles it. I'm not good at goodbyes but some of the shows in today's post have made it a tad bit easier. So without further ado, here are five more television shows that are gone but will never be forgotten. Well, by me at least.

Twisted

Source

It was the show that kept us guessing. Did he or didn't he? Will they or won't they? Is he or isn't he? And most of all, why the hell didn't this show get a second season?! With a great young cast and an intriguing storyline it is really anybody's guess. Twisted is the story of Danny Desai, who is reunited with his best friends Lacy and Jo after being charged with his aunt's death at the age of eleven. Now 16, he's released from a juvenile detention centre only to be thrown into another murder mystery when a young girl is found dead. This show had a lot of potential and ended on quite the cliffhanger. What a waste!

Looking

Speaking of wastes, Looking! I've spoken about this show before in my Latest Favourite Series #1 post. Looking as the story of Patrick - played by my beloved Jonathan Groff - and his friends Agustin, Dom and other's they meet along the way. Not to mention Dom's best friend Doris. We only had two short seasons with this beautiful little show and I can't for the life of me understand why! The only saving grace is they are currently working on a feature length ending, so while the show may have been cancelled we are still to find out the true ending for this merry band of homosexuals... and Doris. #TeamRichie

The New Normal

Another show I miss on a daily basis is The New Normal. A show created by the Ryan Murphy of Nip/Tuck, Glee, American Horror Story and Scream Queens fame. The New Normal was the they journey of Bryan and his partner David becoming parents for the first time via surrogate, Goldie. One of the stand out characters for me was Goldie's daughter Shania (Bebe Wood). She was just hilarious. Another favourite was Bryan (Andrew Rannells). I started watching The New Normal around the same time I fell in love with The Book Of Mormon. He's such a hilarious and talented dude but then so was most of the cast. I will never not miss this show.

Life Unexpected

Life Unexpected was the show that introduced me to Britt Robertson. It's the story of Lux. She spent her whole life in the system after being given up for adoption by her teenage mum. Now a teenager, she goes in search of her birth parents in hopes of being emancipated but ends up putting put in their custody instead. I actually mentioned this show in my last Cancelled Too Soon post as another show Britt was in - The Secret Circle - was cancelled after just one series. Life Unexpected got two and I'm thankful that this show at least had closure. Unlike Twisted and many other shows, they rounded the story of Lux and her family up by doing a flash forward by two years. We see who ends up with who and everyone happy. If I can't have more seasons that's the least I ask for from a show.

Veronica Mars

Source

Lastly we have Veronica Mars. This show had three wonderful seasons and although that's more than the other shows have mentioned it still isn't enough! I'm a little bit in love with Kristen Bell and Veronica and Logan's (Jason Dohring) love story was everything. I think he kick started my love for damaged and uhm... 'unbalanced' males. I mean, compared to the likes of Damon he isn't all that bad but still. But I digress, I think it speaks volumes about how much this show was loved that six years after the show was cancelled Kristen Bell and the show's creator, Rob Thomas, made a Kickstarter campaign to raise two million dollars to make a film. They were successful and in 2014 - ten years after the show originally aired - the film was released, with many of our favourites coming back to reprise their roles as well as some great new faces. It was great to be in Veronica's world again and even more so because the film ended exactly how I wanted to but I won't give that away in case you haven't seen it!

So there you have it. Five more shows that left me heartbroken when they were cancelled. Did you watch any of these? Which was your favourite? I'm hoping to get my sister to watch Veronica Mars with me soon so I can relive the heartbreak all over again. She's never seen it before. I hope she loves it as much as I do! I'm also going to watch Looking again before the film is released. Hopefully I'll recover faster this time.

  1. I've not seen any of these, even Veronica Mars, which is crazy because a lot of my friends loved it, so I'll definitely have to check these out. Twisted in particular looks great too - I like intrigue! - Tasha

    1. I really can't recommend them enough! Though I'd probably recommend Twisted the least as out of these five it had the least satisfactory ending. Well, I mean Looking might too but I haven't seen it's ending yet. Haha. Twisted was a pure cliffhanger. :'(
