My Week In Words | #19 2016

"Voting is the expression of our commitment to ourselves, one another, this country and this world."
Sharon Salzberg

Welcome to this week's instalment of My Week In Words. This week I broke my spending ban, voted and checked out my parent's new apartment. Oh and let's not forget played a whole bunch of Star Stable. All in all it was a pretty good week. This post covers from Sunday 1st to Saturday 7th of May. Enjoy!

I woke up to my usual fry up on Sunday, courtesy of my dad and ate with Eva. Gosh, I'm going to miss my Saturday and Sunday fry up when my parents move out. We've talked about maybe starting a new tradition in which my dad comes and makes us lunch and we all chill together. That's what we used to do at my granny and granda's when we were younger. We'd all go to theirs and my granda would make us all a fry up.

Eva and I decided to get our ponies on Star Stable as she was off work and wanted plenty of time to play with it. So I tried to do all the productive things that needed done early in the day. I sorted out the baby snail tank and wrote a post for my toy blog. The first in a three post series on the Mystery Minis blind boxes I got for my birthday. Once I had that posted I pretty much played Star Stable the rest of the day. Eva and I had planned to wait longer before buying another horse but there was a quest that could only be done on ponies and it was annoying having it pop up all the time. That's our excuse anyway.

I got this little black and white cutie. This screenie totally doesn't do him justice to be honest. It was hard getting used to riding a low level horse/pony again but I spent the evening levelling him up as much as I could. It's still a work in progress.

Later in the evening I got sucked into watching the Hillsborough film and by that I don't mean that someone made me watch it, I mean that it captured me. I vaguely remember hearing people mention the Hillsborough disaster - in which 96 football fans lost their lives and 766 were injured, being let down by those that were supposed to serve and protect them as well as the justice system - but I never really knew the story. I was only half watching the film when it started, still doing pony quests while I kept an eye on the television but it soon had my full attention. I haven't cried that much watching something in quite a while. Eva and I were both in tears. Those people and their families were completely let down every step of the way and the only consolation is now - 27 years later - the truth is finally recognised. After the film ended I headed to bed where I researched more about the disaster for hours.

After staying up so late the night before I got up at 1pm on Monday. My parents had gone out for a walk as my dad was off work because it was a bank holiday. So Eva was roped into getting me out of bed and making my breakfast.

Edwin waiting for me to get out of bed.

We watched The 100 while we ate and later played Star Stable together. I was supposed to be productive but that didn't happen. I did some notes for My Week In Words but rather than actually start writing it I watched more of The 100 with Eva before bed. When I got into bed my Twitter feed was full of photos of people arriving at the Met Gala. I'm not usually one that talks about fashion a lot but after enjoying giving my two pence worth on Twitter about the outfits at the Oscars I had fun doing the same with the Met Gala. Maybe I could make it as a fashion blogger afterall! ...Nah, probably not.

On Tuesday I had breakfast by myself and played Star Stable while I ate. I did eventually work on My Week In Words and I even got it posted! You can check it out here if you missed it. Eva came home from work early so once I had my post up we played more Star Stable until later in the evening when I sorted out the snail tanks. I opened the tank to find that Duro was enjoying the new cork branch I put in.

There was no more eggs to be found and everyone was happy and healthy. I'm looking forward to doing more with the tank and getting more branches and such to make it more interesting for them.

Once the snails were done I played the rest of the evening. Eva and I had planned to watch The 100 but we didn't in the end as it got too late.

I watched RuPaul's Drag Race while I ate breakfast with Eva on Wednesday. I cannot believe the season is almost over already. Where has it gone?! After playing Star Stable for a while I got to work on a toy post and eventually got it posted. Eva had a dentist appointment and couldn't eat until 6pm so I didn't eat in solidarity with her. To be honest the day was pretty uneventful. The only amusing thing that happened all day was this photo.

In the evening I played more Star Stable and then watched The 100 while I ate supper before bed.

My mum got me up before work on Thursday and after breakfast I totally planned to be productive. That eh... didn't happen. Shocker, I know. Eva ended up coming home early from work about fifteen minutes after my mum left. Thursday was my parent's 37th wedding anniversary and we still had to get them something so Eva got me ready when she got home and we went into town. The postman had also left a note to say Eva had something to pay customs for and pick up from the Post Office, so we did that while we were in town too. It turned out to be two new Jeffree Star liquid lipsticks which are just to die for. While in town I broke my no spend rule on a Littlest Pet Shop figure which reminded me of Edwin and a My Little Pony set that went with the ones I got a few weeks ago but hadn't been in stock at the time. I just had to have them.

On the way home we stopped in at a sandwich shop to get lunch to bring home. It was kind of awkward in the store as the dude was trying to give us the hard sell and we just wanted our sandwiches. He kept going on about the 'improvements' he'd made since taking over the shop and considering we really liked it and the owner before it put us off a little. I mean sometimes it's okay to let your cafe and it's food speak for itself. We ate and watched The 100 when we got home.

When my parents got home we gave them their anniversary present before we had to go vote. We decided to walk to the polling station and we discussed who we were voting for on the way. It was a 1/2/3 vote and I went with Green Party/Alliance/Alliance, much to my dad's dismay. He said he had failed as a father as we weren't voting DUP but I would feel like I had failed as a decent human being if I had.

Walking to the polling station was a bit of a mistake as by the time we got there my hands were completely numb and a bit useless. It didn't help matters that the pencil I had to use to mark my card was on a string that was so short that I could barely reach. It looked like a toddler had written the 1/2/3 on the paper. Then we made the short walk home.

That evening I had a monster headache and even gave in and took a painkiller but it didn't do anything to shift it. I don't really remember what I did the rest of the evening, I'm going to guess Star Stable or The 100 but what I do know is that I couldn't get to bed fast enough.

Okay.. Friday is a bit of a blur. I don't really remember much of what I did at all for some reason. Eva was off and we had planned to make buns but we'd bought quite a few cream buns in the bakery on Thursday so it felt like a waste. I'm assuming we watched The 100 and played Star Stable at some point. I also took part in a couple of Twitter chats. It wasn't a completely wasted day though as I worked on a Pets 'n' Stuff post for Saturday and even got it scheduled before bed time.

I had my fry up as usual on Saturday. Eva was off so we ate together, along with my dad. After chilling online for a little bit we got ready to go see my parent's new apartment and we also had to go to Pets At Home and Smyths to get some pet stuff. Yes, Smyths for pet stuff. Not toys. Shocking, I know. For this outing Eva was kind enough to let me use one of her new Jeffree Star liquid lipsticks.

Rocking Scorpio by Jeffree Star.

It was my first time seeing the apartment and I have to say I was surprised. It is going to take some getting used to having my parents live in an apartment block but aside from that the apartment itself is really great. I mean, right now it's empty, has no flooring and needs some decorating but it's so spacious and has a brand new kitchen and bathroom.

My parents have already picked out flooring and they're in the process of deciding what furniture from our house they want to move round and what they want to buy new. I think I'll do a little bit of an update about where we are with the whole move thing in a later post so that's all I'll say for now.

We left mum off at the off-licence to get her Saturday night vodka or cider - whatever she decided to drink this week - and we headed to Pets At Home. First Eva ran into Smyths to get sand for the hamster's sand baths. To save on time I didn't go in. Dad didn't want me to go into Pets At Home either but it felt like a waste to get all dolled up to not actually go anywhere, even if that anywhere was a pet store. Once we picked up the substrate for Rue and some dog stuff we all went to my granda's house. I hadn't been there since just after Christmas because of his bouts with pneumonia, nor since my granny had moved to a care home. My aunt and uncle where there too but because we'd ran late my uncle was just leaving. My dad went to visit his uncle while Eva and I had a catch up with our aunt Karen and my granda drifted in and out of the conversation while he watched football. It was weird how not weird it felt not having granny there. I guess I had had a lot of time to prepare myself and come to terms with the fact things have changed. It also helps that I know she's in a much safer place.

When I got home I spent the rest of the evening chilling and playing Star Stable and so concludes this edition of My Week In Words.

  1. Love that shot of you with your Jeffree Starr lipstick, the shade looks great on you! My Mum was telling me about the Hillsborough incident, it was so sad but I haven't seen the film yet so I must give it a watch. Your new place looks really nice, are you excited to move in? - Tasha
