My Week In Words | #12 2016

"I've always found a cure for the blues is wandering into something unknown, and resting there, before coming back to whatever weight you were carrying."
Diane Sawyer

Welcome to this super belated edition of My Week In Words. I decided to take a little bit of a hiatus. There's no real reason other than I felt like I needed it. Now I'm back with renewed vigour and I love blogging again! This week we say goodbye to hockey games until next season. I can't believe it. Today's post covers from Sunday 13th to Saturday 19th of March. Enjoy!

On Sunday I woke up to my parents wanting to take Baby, my Labrador, for a walk. It was only three days after her operation to remove four lumps, one of which in her armpit, so she was supposed to be on strict rest. I have no idea why my parents seemed to have such a problem with it. They even went as far as to say it was bad for her mental health to be stuck indoors. Nonetheless, I put my foot down. No way was I going to take a chance with her, especially on a Sunday when I didn't have access to a vet. I went back to sleep and when I woke up again my parents were back and my dad had made me a fry up for breakfast. After I ate I chilled and listened to Wicked on YouTube, which led me to listening to other musicals. It was all thanks to Tweet but I ended up having a one woman musical instead of being productive. I also posted this Tweet:

Which resulted in an influx of vegans and vegan accounts Tweeting me. I felt a little bad. As much as I'd love to be vegan or even vegetarian, it's just not something I could commit to right now. I'm also not sure limiting my diet even more, when my appetite is so bad already, would be good for my health. I mean I was eating bacon when I posted it. Still, maybe one day. If my one Tweet is anything to go by there seems to be a lot of knowledgeable people who are there to give tips and whatnot.

I had a pretty chill day working on a post for my toy blog. I posted part one later on in the evening and then got to work on part two while I watched a Belfast Giants webcast. They were playing in Cardiff. It was a bad game but it was good to see one of my favourite players, Matt Nickerson, back after his injury and there was a slightly comical moment when we had five players in the penalty box. Apparently they wanted to make good use out of Cardiff's new facilities before the season ended. Thankfully their penalty box seems to be more spacious than most. Anyway, we lost. After the game and getting part two of my toy post scheduled I cleaned out these babies and checked for eggs.

The reason why I had a spot check was I noticed some eggs against the side of the tank. I'd only found some not too long before so I wasn't too worried about checking. I'm thankful I was able to see them as the idea of having a clutch hatch gives me nightmares.

Once I'd sorted the snails I watched Crufts with Eva for a bit before we got into bed to watch Degrassi. We ended up finishing season 14 so we had to say goodbye to some of our favourite characters. It was pretty much heartbreaking.

One of said characers. Miss you Drew.

Monday was my two year blogiversary.  I can't believe it. Unlike the year before I didn't have a special post for it. I tried not to beat myself up too much about not making it more special. I didn't even have My Week In Words scheduled. Oh well. I called to pay Baby's vet bill and was pleasantly surprised it was only £390. I know that's a lot of money but I was worried it was going to be closer to the £1000 mark. In the afternoon I went into town with Eva to see if we could get her a dress for the Belfast Giants Awards night. If you read my last edition of My Week In Words you'll know we failed to find her size on our last attempt. To be honest, there was more of the same in town. It was highly frustrating. The only thing that made the shopping trip more enjoyable, even if a little bitter sweet, was visiting my favourite toy store in town for the last time. I'd been shopping in Stewart Miller for toys ever since I can remember. They had a big clearance sale so I went to pick up a few things. I'll be reviewing them on my toy blog in the future but here's a sneak peek.

We also picked up some things for the awards night. I got hair dye, new mascara and some lashes. In the last shop we visited Eva thankfully was able to find a nice dress that actually fit! Once I got home I was pretty much fit for nothing the rest of the evening due to a massive headache. So I just chilled and went to bed early.

When I got up on Tuesday I played with Luca on my mum's bed. I stayed there until his mum collected him and then I had some cuddle time with my Chihuahuas instead.

Photo I took of Edwin when I finally got up.

When I got up I went on my laptop. I'm not really sure what I did then but I'm pretty sure it wasn't anything productive. I took part in some Twitter chats and later on in the day I wasn't feeling very well so I went on my ventilator for a while. My dad wasn't very happy with me because he's convinced I'm going to make myself dependent on it but I told my respiratory nurse and she was happy enough so I'm not worried about it. On Tuesday I still hadn't posted My Week In Words and I really had no desire to blog. As such I decided I would get My Week In Words up as soon as I could and then take a blog break. When I start feeling like blogging is a chore I know that's when I need to stop for a while, so I can find my love for it again. It felt like a little bit of a weight off once I'd decided that. In the evening I got into bed with Eva to watch the latest episode of RuPaul's Drag Race. I was super bummed out to find out we can't watch it on Logo anymore but thankfully we were able to find it, even if the quality wasn't great. While I was watching Drag Race I seen a notification on my NHL app and had to do a double take. Turns out our little ice hockey league - the EIHL - got a mention! Sadly it was for a goal against the Belfast Giants by the Cardiff Devils. Still, it was cool! You can check out the video here.

I had breakfast with Eva on Wednesday and we watched Untucked while we ate. I'm really loving Untucked this season. I didn't watch it last year so hadn't realised how much it had changed. I really like the more behind the scenes feel it has now. Wednesday was a day of primping. Eva helped me shave my legs for the first time in forever and I swear I felt reborn.

Later on she then bleached my roots for me. I decided this will probably be the last time I bleach them before I grow out or dye over the blue. My hair grows pretty fast so I'm sure it won't take me long to get back to the point I was at. It felt like I had the bleach on forever as it was so uncomfortable. I was glad to get a shower and wash it out. Then it was time to put on the Peacock Blue dye. It was by Crazy Color. While Eva applied it I watched a Belfast Giants webcast. They were playing at home against Cardiff but as Wednesday was Eva's only day off until Saturday we had to use it to get primped for the awards. I was a little bummed out about missing a home game so close to the end of the season but since there was a game on Friday and Saturday, I didn't mind too much. I also didn't feel like I'd wasted my money buying the webcast as we ended up winning. After the game Eva helped me wash the blue dye out of my hair and then I blow dried it before bed.

My dad was off on Thursday so he got me out of bed and we ate breakfast together. Thursday was a bit of a monumental day as SeaWorld announced that the current generation of Orcas in their tanks will be their last. But I think it's important people remember this isn't SeaWorld saying they were wrong, it's them trying to protect their business. Personally I would still avoid them. I also finally got My Week In Words posted so after that I was officially on my blog break. It felt good. I needed it. You can read that instalment of My Week In Words here. Most of all I relaxed on Thursday. I knew I had a big weekend ahead of me so I wanted to make the most of having nothing to do. I took part in the Crazy Bloggers Twitter chat which was all about one of my favourite things, selfies. Then I watched YouTube the rest of the evening.

Dad was off on Friday so he got me up again and made me breakfast. After I ate I had a shower before getting ready for ice hockey as it was game day. My dad was taking me as Eva was working. We were playing against the Fife Flyers. I really missed having Eva at the game. It was a slow start and I missed her banter keeping me entertained during the boring parts. My dad isn't always the best conversationalist. Thankfully the game got better during the second period. We even came away with a win! On the way out an old dude clean backed into me and didn't even notice. I swear I have better spacial awareness and drive better when I'm drunk than most people who walk. We left the arena just in time to pick Eva up from work and then we went to get some take out as we'd all skipped dinner. Dad wanted to try a new barbecue place but I had no idea what to get because we'd never ate their before and I was at a complete loss. Cue anxiety. Barbecue isn't food I really like anyway. Thankfully I was able to get from my favourite kebab place nearby it. I'd been craving one and it was the reason I had actually brought up the idea of take out in the first place. Eva and I ate together and chilled when we got home as we hadn't seen each other all day. We even had some fun with Snapchat filters before we went to bed. The result was pretty disturbing...

You're welcome.

I had my leftover kebab for breakfast on Saturday and chilled with Eva before we started getting ready for the game. It was a little surreal to think it was the last home game of the regular league and our last home game this season altogether. It feels like just yesterday Eva and I were planning to stay up in Belfast for the first game. I had the first game of the season with Eva and I was glad to be finishing off the season with her too.

It was a great game, right from the get go and we even got another win! Though for the second period of the game I had a dad and three kids standing beside me. Not sitting. Standing. One of the kids kept swaying and moving closer and closer to me. I was sure he was going to end up on my lap. Then he turned his foam finger on me and said, "Do you want to die today?" I awkward laughed and tried to ignore him and concentrate on the game. When the break came I went to the bathroom and when I came back they were gone but my tea had been spilled everywhere. We weren't best pleased. The weekend was a full bowl and the crowd was great. Such an atmosphere and I couldn't resist taking a full bowl panoramic shot.

There was some stuff planned after the game, such as player Jonathan Boxill having his hair cut to donate to the Little Princess Trust and shaving his beard to raise money, but because the awards were on Sunday and Eva and I still had to pack we decided to leave when the game finished. I was a little bummed out we couldn't stay but it was for the best. On the way home we went to get take out again as we'd skipped dinner again. We're so healthy, right?

I was so surprised to find when I got home that my one application of Jeffree Star lip colour - even after eating - was still on point after around five or six hours. I was impressed!

I headed to bed not long after I got in as I had a big day ahead of me on Sunday and needed my rest but more on that in my next post.

Hope everyone is well and had a great Easter!

  1. Awww, Edwin! I'm enjoying Untucked this series too - I'd watched bits of it last year, but I've been sticking with it a lot more this time around, it definitely has a more relaxed feel to it now. I've been playing around with veganism too - I'm definitely interested in it. - Tasha
